Hi, my name is Dan and my wife and I started running Big World nearly 10 years ago. Our goal was to combine English education with world cultures while making English lessons active, fun, and effective. We are a small private English school in Matsusaka, Mie, Japan. then we have also started a Montessori English Immersion Preschool which we have connected to our Big World.

Mission

Although we have gone through many changes and grown rapidly over the past 10 years, our main mission remains the same: To provide quality education that is enjoyable and engages students to become independent and lifelong learners of not only English, but various cultures and languages, as well as other subjects which students may have an interest in pursuing further.

Open Positions

Currently, we are seeking a teacher for the following:

Full-time or Part-time English Conversation and Elementary School Teacher

Requirements:

Experience Teaching English Conversation of all ages (mostly toddlers to junior high school)
Ability to structure and manage lessons effectively
Ability to create, record, and implement lesson plans
Ability to analyze, critique, and restructure curriculum
Willingness to work with others
Native-speaker or Native-level of English
Communicate effectively with management, staff, and customers

It is preferred that applicants:

Are flexible with duties and time
Relevant qualifications such as B.A. or M.A. in education, language, etc.
Can work independently
Are willing to grow with the school
Are willing to manage or become managers of the program in the future
Speak enough Japanese to communicate with parents and manage and teach students when necessary

The details for the current position are as follows:

Full-time or Part-time English Conversation School Teacher

Conditions:

Salary 200,000 ~ 250,000 per month
20 days off per year with 6 weeks of the year with no classes. (10 days must taken when classes are not in session and all 20 if possible). However, up to 10 days may be taken off during classes in emergencies, sickness, or when requested and a substitute can be found.
200,000 to 250,000 depending on the number of hours and experience and students that we have at the start (opportunity for promotion and pay increase beyond 250,000 depending on performance, number of students, and responsibilities)
Base Hours will be 20 to 25 classes per week plus prep time or other curriculum tasks or aftercare for preschool as needed etc. Total of about 30 hours.
1-year contract with possibility to renew based on mutual agreement
5 days a week including Saturdays or 6 days a week with pay increase
Must be willing to add more teaching hours if demand increases
Flexible hours - goal is to put classes from 3-8 p.m. on weekdays , and 8-2 p.m. on Saturdays
- This will likely change as students shift times, exit and enter the school
- Beginning will likely be 4 weekdays and Saturdays
- Our goal is to put most classes back to back to keep the total hours on-site at 30.
- As total hours increase we will discuss and renegotiate hours and salary and/or whether we want to add more hours and increase staff.
There are a few weekend events and meetings throughout the year that you may need to attend. Staff meetings, events (Halloween, graduation, summer camp, summer school).
Can sponsor visa
Our goal is to fill up current groups and classrooms of our current facility. As this happens over time we will possibly add staff and seek a manager of Eikaiwa to coordinate, assess, and evaluate other staff and curriculum
We teach primarily Elementary school level, but some adult, junior high, and adult classes as well.
